For this wine, though shades of Alto Piedmont, but wholly its own thing. What a ride.

About The Wine
Nebbiolo from the Yarra Valley. Fermented as 100% whole bunches, as is the way of Timo Mayer.
It's Timo's second release and the clawing for allocations has already begun. It's a wine with chiselled teeth of tannin yet a silken feel from beginning to end.
There are few Nebbiolos in Australia that rise to this level, Mike Bennie awarding it a mammoth 96 points and causing something of a stampede from those seeking Australia's finest renditions of this hallowed variety.
A rare bird here, one that will no doubt disappear all too quickly.
About Timo Mayer
German-born, enigmatic winemaker Timo Mayer is one of the great characters of the Yarra Valley. The words bombastic, charismatic and wild are as much applicable to the man as his wines.
From his close-planted Yarra Valley vineyard, evocatively named 'Bloody Hill', Timo carves out some astounding wines made with low levels of new oak and minimal additions.
The signature of Timo's winemaking style is his penchant for whole-bunch ferment. His wines have an ethereal quality, firm tannins and impeccable structure.
These are compelling and extremely limited wines that tell a unique story of the Yarra Valley.
