I worked with the variety in the south of France where they had these old, dry grown vineyards, and those wines had heaps of flavour and intensity. It was an experience that planted a seed in our minds and broadened our vision back in the Barossa.

About the Wine
Peter Schell's experience making wine in the Rhone Valley has undoubtedly shaped his winemaking vision for the Barossa, no more so than with this 100% Ugni Blanc.
The Barossa has some incredibly old Ugni Blanc vines, and while Schell has traditionally blended this away into his much-loved Lola blend, 2017 afforded him the quality of fruit to release it as a stand-alone.
The fruit was hand-picked, wild fermented as whole clusters and then aged on lees in older French oak for 8 months. Freshness, texture, interest - this is a fascinating and delicious white wine and another exciting Spinifex release.
About Spinifex
Spinifex is one of the undercover jewels of the Barossa Valley, and very much a pioneer of the changing direction of this famous region.
Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals. Pete’s wines brought a new sensibility to the region; they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso.
There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex. These are brilliant Barossa wines.
