About The Wine
This Aglianico has become a regular part of the Spinifex range, and it's always a deliciously different offering from this winemaking wizard.
Pete was first inspired to make this wine after tasting some Adelaide Hills Aglianico a few years back and finding that it delivered many of the traits he seeks in his reds - terms like "nervy", "high-toned", "chiseled" and "savoury" are ever-present when he speaks about his wines.
It comes from the Amadio vineyard in the northern Adelaide Hills, and with Aglianico being such a late-ripening variety is the last of the Spinifex crop to be picked. It spends a couple of weeks on skins, is fermented in older oak with a portion of stainless steel, and is bottled unfiltered with minimal additions.
Interest and deliciousness writ large here. Super drink.
About Spinifex
Spinifex are one of the 'New' Barossa's true pioneer producers.
Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.
Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter's wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection.
He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso.
There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.
