About Salomon Wines
Two hemispheres. From north to south. The Salmon Estate family story is a winemaking journey unparalleled in the world. Bert Salomon is a seventh-generation descendant of the great Austrian wine dynasty Salomon Undhof, renowned since 1792 for creating the finest Rieslings and Gruner Veltliners from the Kremstal region west of Vienna. In the 1980s he also pioneered the importation of Australian wines to his homeland.
Bert and his wife Gertrud have a love for great red wine and diverse cultures, which brought them to Australia hoping to broaden their horizons and find the perfect place for a vineyard to satisfy their wanderlust. As they searched, they fell in love with the landscape around the Finniss River district on South Australia’s southern Fleurieu Peninsula, and after meticulous terroir-based research settled on a site that became their southern-hemisphere home.
