About
The 2017 Vintage, has to be one of the most exciting vintages I have ever seen with Riesling, and I am going as far to say it is the Riesling Vintage of the century thus far.

About The Wine

John Hughes has a deep love of Riesling.

His unwavering commitment to it has seen him become one of the country's true artisanal producers of the variety. This is his Eden Valley Riesling. The fruit is sourced from two vineyards between Eden Valley and Flaxman’s Valley.

It's made in a dry style, looking to capture the sublime characters of these brilliant vineyards. The quality is clear, the expression is pure. The vintage is the best he's seen. This is Eden Valley Riesling in top form. A dead set bargain for any Riesling fan.

From The Producer

The 2017 Vintage, has to be one of the most exciting vintages I have ever seen with Riesling, and I am going as far to say it is the Riesling Vintage of the century thus far. With a long and cool spring and summer, and the generosity of rain from Mother Nature, the vintage was set for the Riesling vineyards.

Riesling is one variety that performs well under cool and wet weather conditions. As a result of Mother Nature, we had ample of water to the vines, creating large vines, big bunches and big berries, the perfect recipe for great Riesling. By having the cool and wet seasons, we had a latter vintage. The bonus of this was the grapes were on the vine for an extra 3-4 weeks, providing a longer ripening season.

As a result we have ended with some very refined and delicate Rieslings, nearly as good as what we see coming out of Germany! The Rieslings from the 2017 vintage can be consumed now, and for those that enjoy aged Riesling, the 2017 Rieslings will stock and reward your cellar over time. 2017 'Zenit' is comprised of 50% Clare Valley, 40% Eden Valley and 10% Polish Hill River fruit.

DDS review

It's a compact wine that is humming with energy. Tight, limey, flinty. Lime, steel and sherbet coursing through its veins. The lime skin, the green pineapple, the epic length. It's all good. - Different Drop Wine Team

The Wine Front

"Lean and fresh, steely, serious, tangy and fine boned. Zesty and intense in its citrusy way, electric acidity guiding flavours long and fresh. Mouthwatering, etched with chalky mineral character. Cracking riesling." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
