About The Wine

After supplying grapes to some of the country's most exciting new wave winemakers, Ash Ratcliff has now released his own label from his eclectic Ricca Terra Farms. This is a blend of some of Ash's favourite white Mediterranean varieties: Vermentino, Fiano, Greco di Tuffo - and the new comer to his band of brave new varieties - Arinto.

The vines were pruned by hand, picked by hand, co-fermented except for the Arinto portion and brought to bottle with no acid adjustments, something that few wines from the Riverlands could claim. The Bronco Buster is made as a light, smashable wine with enough savoury elements to make it marry perfectly with a wide array of cuisine.

The blend may look to be a little 'out there' but the wine itself is oddly familiar. A great start from Ash and his team and a sign of more great things to come.

About Ricca Terra

Ashley Ratcliff is one of the Riverlands most forward-thinking viticultural minds. After leaving Yalumba to set up his own Riverland vineyard, he began investigating the potential for obscure alternative varieties in his chosen region. Varieties that retain acidity in the heat, such as Fiano and Arinto have struck a cord, as well as Nero d'Avola, Negroamaro and Tinta Barocca which thrive in warmer climes.

His Ricca Terra Vintners label showcases these interesting varieties and their suitability to our climate. Whether straight varietal wines or creative blends, every wine is deliciously approachable and superb value for money.

Ash is one of the most important viticulturalists in Australia and his passion and knowledge are vital to the future of the Australian industry. Ricca Terra was named one of the Top Ten Best New Wineries in the 2020 Halliday Wine Companion.

The story

In a life before wine, Ricca Terra Farms’ Ashley Ratcliff was a horseman (representing Australia in 1991). Growing up on a farm in the Adelaide Hills, he moved to a small town outside Fort Worth, Texas, USA, where his job was breaking in wild horses. Working with an animal that has no prior connection with a human, gaining its trust, teaching it to allow a person to climb all over it, and then building a friendship between horse and man is an amazing and rewarding experience. There are close parallels between breaking in a horse and growing & making alternative grape varieties. Vision, knowledge, trust and patience are required if success is expected, whether that be wine or horse. Get it wrong and you are sure to be bucked off!

The strategy behind the blend: Four white grape varieties are used to make this wine. Vermentino was chosen for its ability to produce great wine in a warm dry environment and was the first white Mediterranean grape planted at Ricca Terra Farms. Fiano was planted purely for its fragrant flavour and Greco to give a crunchy acid punch. Artino was the special element…the newest grape variety at Ricca Terra Farms.

The Real Review

Wine of the Week, "A blend of vermentino, fiano, greco and arinto from the enterprising Ashley Ratcliff. Pale lemon colour; a lifted, aromatic, fresh floral bouquet and a fruity yet dry, savoury, delicious taste with refreshing acidity. A well-judged grip will see it stand up well with food. An unusual and distinctive charmer." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

The Wine Front

A wine of fine chalky, bony texture. A wine of green melon, nashi pear, lime juice scents. A wine of lean but refreshing green melon/white pear fruit flavours with a distinct, talc-like mineral aspect. It’s crisp, clean, refreshing. It’s a summery white of high charisma. Go forth!" - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts?

No our pricing is aiming to the best in the market already. For very large orders (weddings etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call. How does the price match work?

Everyday Low & Consistent Pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll match it. We'll even retrospectively refund you if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me?

This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store?

No, not really. More of a warehouse/office. We do however offer a Click & Collect option from our warehouse in Ultimo, Sydney. Our warehouse address for Click & Collect is: F5A, 42 Wattle St, Ultimo, 2007

Can I special order a wine you do not sell?

If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
