For the old boys that love Burgundy but still want some fun...
About The Wine
This is the finest Chardonnay in the 2017 Patrick Sullivan line up, and also the most limited.
A wonderful release from Pat's now organically farmed vineyard in Gippsland. From a small, higher section of the vineyard at 350m ASL, tightly wound with incredible power, there are few Australian Chardonnays that conjure up comparisons with top-flight Chablis like this.
It's a great achievement from Pat, though he lays all credit at the roots of 40-year-old vineyard he now lovingly tends.
There were no additions bar a dash of sulphur, just a great vineyard expressed with sensitivity.
Proof that in winemaking, sometimes less truly is more.
About Patrick Sullivan
The wild-haired Patrick Sullivan is a farmer first, winemaker second.
His pride and joy is his vineyard in the Strezleki Ranges in the Gippsland G.I. of Victoria. On this plot of land, Pat farms with organic principals alongside Bill Downie, one of the most revolutionary winemakers of his generation.
Bill takes the Pinot Noir from the vineyard, Pat takes the Chardonnay and a few other bits and pieces. The wines are un-tinkered with, fermented in neutral vessels with little or no sulphur and are made to express their special site and the vagaries of vintage.
In Pat's words, "The wines are inspired by emotion, a moment in time and a sense of place."
