About The Wine

The combined expertise of the Onannon winemaking trio comes to the fore here with this 'smoking' release of Chardonnay from the Mornington Peninsula.

A single vineyard in Tuerong provides the fruit, the boys playing around with higher levels of solids in the ferment making a more complete wine on release. A finer-boned expression when compared to the 2016 release, Byron, Middleton and Hermann taking full advantage of the ideal growing conditions in 2017.

This is a smoky cool-climate Chardonnay with great energy and drive through the mouth. Gary Walsh awarded it and exceptional 96 points on the Wine Front, which is no mean feat.

If you love class-act Victorian Chardonnay, this offers brilliant value.

About Onannon

Onannon was founded by Will Byron, Kaspar Hermann and Sam Middleton.

The trio met whilst working at Coldstream Hills many years ago. Will is now the chief winemaker at Stonier in Mornington Peninsula, Sam has taken over winemaking duties at his iconic family estate, Mount Mary in the Yarra Valley where he and Kaspar have worked for years.

With Onannon, they are looking to make wines that excite them from Mornington Peninsula and Geelong, focussing primarily on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 

With strong relationships with great growers, this is more than just a hobby, Onannon is a passion project.

"This is smoking Chardonnay, and a little smoky with it too. The struck match, almond, nectarine and citrus leads the way, then into a palate that’s singing in clear voice. Flinty, bright, juicy, almond and stuck match – finesse and power – crunch of green pear and grapefruit to close. Oak lends some spice and structural scaffolding, but feels a minor player. Magnificent. It’s one of those “Am I 95 or 96 points here?” wines, and while I used to be indecisive, I still don’t much like putting numbers on bottles." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

From The Producer

100% 95 clone Chardonnay from a single site in Tuerong. Fruit is crushed into the press. After pressing it's settled overnight and then racked to barrel. We played around with different levels of solids.

A combination of yeasts were used to help build some complexity. No MLF. 20% new French oak, 10 months in barrel. The nose is smoky with grilled hazelnut, nectarine, ghee.

Very tight, clean attack, a pure soda/mineral mid-palate. It's more delicate than '16 with better oak integration, and finishes with clean, chewy savouriness. - Will Byron, Onannon

We ship primarily with Australia Post. Their fast, easy and reliable delivery is completely FREE for any orders of $150 or more, or just $9 for any orders of $149 or less. There is no minimum order quantity and you can mix and match as much as you like.

The vast majority of orders are dispatched from our Sydney warehouse on the same or next business day. Estimated delivery time frames can be viewed here. Please include Authority to Leave instructions in the ‘SPECIAL REQUESTS’ box during checkout if you may not be available to sign for your delivery and would like it left at your front door.
