About The Wine

Nocturne is the private label of husband and wife winemaking team Julian and Alana Langworthy.

Julian has received plenty of attention since taking home the 2016 Jimmy Watson Trophy for his work on the Deep Woods Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, but it's this collaboration with Alana which is the winemaking project closest to his heart.

The pair recently obtained a mature Cabernet vineyard in Yallingup, from which they are striving to create elegant, regional Cabernet Sauvignon of premium quality. The 2017 vintage is fine and medium-bodied, supple and incredibly approachable yet will mature beautifully over the medium to long term.

This wine should be on the hit list for every devotee of Margaret River Cabernet.

About Nocturne

Nocturne is the personal side label of highly decorated Margaret River winemaker Julian Langworthy and his wife Alana.

Julian has won just about everything there is to win in Australian wine, having taken out Winemaker of the Year for the 2019 Halliday Wine Companion, the 2016 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at Royal Melbourne in the space of just a couple of years.

The Nocturne wines are all small production with Julian focusing on quality rather than quantity in this range. 

The fruit is procured through Julian's connections with local growers developed over his lifetime in the Margaret River region. If you're looking for hidden gems of Margaret River, the Nocturne wines are it.

From The Producer

This vintage was, as far as great Margaret River Cabernet seasons go, perfect. Amoderate amount of early-season rainfall and then warm days and cool nights for weeksand weeks. It was a complete Goldilocks harvest and one that will go down in the historybooks.

The fruit was picked on 16th March, one of the earlier Cabernet parcels picked thatyear. While tasting the fruit in the vineyard it was clear that there were great flavoursand concentration. Once crushed and into tank, the must exhibited the most amazingcolour and silky epic tannin, all at once serious yet joyous.

The fruit was simply destemmed and fermented in 4.5-tonne static fermenters. After 12days on skins and a peak ferment temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius, the winewas pressed to tank and settled briefly, before being transferred to a combination ofnew (25%) and two-year-old barrels to undergo malolactic conversion. This wine wasracked only once in this time and, after 18 months in oak, was emptied from barrel,settled, clarified and bottled.

The Sheoak Vineyard makes expressive, medium-bodied Cabernets. This release isundoubtedly the most serious and best we have made to date. A wine that, if you havethe patience, will improve and develop further complexity over the next decade.

Effortless Cabernet with a distinct regional accent. Bayleaves, violets, cassis and firm, persistent tannin. It's a lovely wine to drink now with deep pools of open and inviting fruit mesh beautifully to some top quality oak. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
