About The Wine

"The ferment took off like a Rocket," says Michael Downer, "One foudre (large format barrel) just went wild so we've bottled it seperetley this year."

This is the first release of this blistering, laser-focused Chardonnay from Murdoch Hill. It's tightly coiled - the pick of the best fruit from the Tilbury Chardonnay from the superb 2017 vintage in the Adelaide Hills.

Mike Bennie likened it to "supremely tightly wound Chablis." in his rave 95+ point review. As mentioned, only 1 barrel was bottled, and the release is extremely limited.

This arguably the most exciting wine to come out of this on-fire producer to date.

About Murdoch Hill

Murdoch Hill is a family-owned winery captained by talented young winemaker Michael Downer.

Downer splits the range in two: his clean-cut, consistently high-quality ‘Estate’ wines are excellent value and perpetually reliable, and his quirky, adventurous ‘Artisan’ wines which offer an alt-styling and different shades of the region.

With the combination of high-quality Adelaide Hills fruit grown on the family estate and the undoubted talent in the winery, this is a Hills producer on the up and up!

"New release/first release here. Some of the foudres used for Tilbury were isolated for their interest and personality. The 2017 vintage particularly strong for MH, particularly in chardonnay. The timing was right, reveals winemaker Michael Downer. This wine is to be set free from the winery in April 2018. Reminiscent of Syberia from Hoddles Creek, or supremely tightly wound Chablis. Powerful yet quiet chardonnay of full character yet exceptional control. Serious pulse of tingly, slatey, flinty mineral character with lively citrus and green apple notes. Incredibly intense yet so delicious, racing across the palate with velocity. Should last a generation too. Magnificent, leaner, serious expression." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
