Elegant cool climate Syrah with a wild side. Full of character and ridiculous value for money.

About The Wine

Light-medium bodied, super-spicy, bunchy, beautiful Shiraz here from Sam Leyshon - all under $25.

This is fruit grown at the Mallaluka vineyard outside Murrumbateman. One quarter of the fruit was fermented as whole bunches, the other three quarters fermented as whole berries. There's a load of savoury, black olive character going on here, plenty of spice from the stems.

It's a lively little wine and awesome value if you love cool-climate Syrah with a bit of attitude.

About Mallaluka Wines

Mallaluka is a family affair in the Canberra district of NSW.

These estate-grown wines are made by second generation vigneron Sam Leyshon who has most recently learnt to ply his trade assisting Bryan Martin and Tim Kirk at Clonakilla.

These are modern wines that reflect the changing face of this exciting region. He makes wines with a wild side, they are made with minimal intervention and are insane value for money.

With Sam in the driver's seat, Mallaluka is one of the rising stars of the region, bringing a unique light and shade to the Canberra district.

Critic Reviews

The Wine Front

"Hard to go past Canberra District shiraz (syrah) if you’re looking for medium weight, spicy, silky reds of length, presence, elegance and interest. Such a good region for the variety. Here’s one to set the heart aflutter. Gamey, meaty, peppery spice and green herbs, leafy and yet floral sort of thing too; very savoury is the message. Mouthwatering acidity, meaty notes, red currants, beetroot, soft and then bites with good fresh finish. Lovely drinking, supple texture, lightish bodied, showing freshness and an underlying strictness too. It’s a delicious wine, a little more unfettered than most from the region, a touch wilder in the best possible way." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
