Sam Leyshon's alt expression of Riesling from Canberra is set to a nervy wave-length.
This is a divergent style to the regional status quo - this sees his home grown Riesling fruit naturally fermented as whole bunches and then left to chill on skins for a few months before pressing. It crackles with energy, it's Canberra Riesling with a punk-rock styling. A tip of the cap from Mike Bennie who wrote, "So much structure, incredible tannin, freshness and personality... So very good."
This is a mile from the lean and clean style of Riesling Sam has helped put together during his time working at Clonakilla. It's its own beast. And it's a wicked thing to drink.
About Mallaluka Wines
Mallaluka is a family affair in the Canberra district of NSW.
These estate-grown wines are made by second generation vigneron Sam Leyshon who has most recently learnt to ply his trade assisting Bryan Martin and Tim Kirk at Clonakilla.
These are modern wines that reflect the changing face of this exciting region. He makes wines with a wild side, they are made with minimal intervention and are insane value for money.
