About The Wine

Sam Leyshon's alt expression of Riesling from Canberra is set to a nervy wave-length.

This is a divergent style to the regional status quo - this sees his home grown Riesling fruit naturally fermented as whole bunches and then left to chill on skins for a few months before pressing. It crackles with energy, it's Canberra Riesling with a punk-rock styling. A tip of the cap from Mike Bennie who wrote, "So much structure, incredible tannin, freshness and personality... So very good."

This is a mile from the lean and clean style of Riesling Sam has helped put together during his time working at Clonakilla. It's its own beast. And it's a wicked thing to drink.

The Wine Front

"Half was skin ferment which lasted about three months. From Canberra District. This is such an interesting, exciting, well-rendered expression. Natural ferment, no filtering/fining, so much texture, so much personality. Star on the rise and rise here. And what a great fella winemaker Sam Leyshon is. Extraordinary value for this wine, and indeed the whole range. Smoky notes, dried citrus pith, faint savoury honey-nuttiness, lemon and lime, green apple. Lots going on. Sort of has a juiciness, definitely has a chalkiness, zesty acidity, lemony tang wth light farmhouse cider notes. So much structure, incredible tannin, freshness and personality. Tonic water and texture, minerality and vivacity. So very good." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
