About The Wine
The 2017 vintage is the inaugural release of the Lyons Will Gamay.
Inspired by the finest wines of Beaujolais, Oli and Renata decided to plant Gamay on their small vineyard in the foothills of the Cobaw State Forest in 2013.
The wine is made with traditional winemaking techniques, utilising carbonic maceration during ferment and only old oak for maturation.
The first release is stunning. It's a crisp-edged, medium bodied red with a tonne of vibrant fruit and a stack of charisma.
Bottled unfined and unfiltered, don't be concerned if there's some sediment in the bottle. That's all part of the fun.
About Lyons Will
Lyons Will is one of the hidden gems of the Macedon Ranges.
This stunning 4ha vineyard was originally planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in 1996 by Bob and Barabara Farawell and has really blossomed since being purchased by husband and wife Oliver Rapson and Renata Morello.
Oli is a viticulturalist and saw the potential for this beautiful site. In 2013 they planted a small amount of Gamay and Riesling on the property which are thriving, as well as extending their plantings of Pinot Noir.
It's a small family operation. Oli and Renata craft the wines together, everything is done by hand with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Their first releases are electric. Lyons Will is one of the most exciting new projects to emerge from the Macedon Ranges in the last decade.
