About the Wine
While this is only the second time the Luigi Vico Barolo del Commune di Serralunga d'Alba has been made, it shows that its producers understand the vineyard and the grapes oh so well. With lots of red berries, spice and floral characters, the nose draws you in to the first sip.
The mix of fruity and savoury notes (red fruits, tea, spice) are supported by fresh acidity and fine tannins, making the wine one of the more approachable Barolos you'll find, but also one that you can cellar to gain some added complexity. Drink it with rich pasta dishes or red meat.
About Az. Agr. Luigi Vico
The story of Luigi Vico is one of longing to reconnect with one's past. Having moved away from the hills of Barolo to make a life in Turin, Luigi felt the call back to his home when the long-term rental contracts on his family's vineyards were expiring. Having helped his grandparents in these same vineyards as a boy, the pull to return to make wine under his own name was undeniable.
Luigi sought the help of winemaker Davide Rosso, of famed winery Giovanni Rosso in Serralunga, and the two are already responsible for crafting some seriously beautiful wines, though it seems like the best is yet to come.
