About The Wine
Clos St Denis is the smallest of the Morey-Saint-Denis Grand Crus, located is at the foot of the slope and has brown limestone soils which contain phosphorus (like Chambertin) and clay (like Musigny). The wines from this Grand Cru are detailed and nuanced, they can appear subtle upon opening but have an inherent power and depth.
Another knock out offering from Le Moine, this has dark berries and spice balanced by a supple freshness. The length and complexity are baffling and it is a lesson in precision. This is outstanding red burgundy - if you can, grab one.
About Lucien Le Moine
Lucien Le Moine is a partnership between husband and wife team of Mounir and Rotem Saouma.
Theirs has been one of the most talked about negociant operations on the modern Cote D'Or. They actively source parcels from the finest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards up and down Burgundy.
Winemaking wise, they have been touted as one of the benchmark 'modernist producers', however, Mounir believes that his long, slow elevages and minimal use of sulphur harken back to the Burgundy production of an era gone by.
On their operation, Jancis Robinson wrote, "An extraordinary micro negociant in Beaune. Very serious quality." These are powerful, complex wines of imposing quality and stature.
