About The Wine

The 'Ludo' Fiano was grown in McLaren Vale by Ben Lacey on his family vineyard.

Some intelligent winemaking bringing an extra level of detail and complexity to this emerging variety. Andy Coppard utilising a little skin contact and barrel ferment to enhance the saline and mineral charged nuances of the variety.

It's brilliant drinking, one of the most compelling versions of Fiano in the country right now.

It received 92 points from Mike Bennie and is highly recommended if you are looking to explore a new side of this wonderful Italian variety.

About Lino Ramble

Lino Ramble is the exciting creation of eccentric duo Andy Coppard (Winemaker) and Angela Townsend (self-proclaimed "Engine Driver") born amongst the picturesque landscape of McLaren Vale.

Their wines are built on the philosophy that "The right variety grown in right place, farmed in a sustainable fashion" is going to produce the best fruit and it looks like a winning formula.

They focus on the classic Rhone varieties that have built the reputation of "The Vale" as well as adventuring into the realms of the likes of Nero d'Avola, Saperavi and Nebbiolo. Their wines have a distinct, textural feel, are brilliantly packaged and first class value for money.

Critic Reviews

The Wine Front

"Ticks plenty of boxes. Has some squeak and depth to texture, touch of nutty savouriness, splashes of citrus and white flesh pear, lively in acidity. A little skinsy chew through the wine too. It’s refreshing and interesting in equal measure. Great drinking to be had here." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

"From the Lacey Vineyard, 30% fermented in French oak, 70% fermented on skins for 60 days. Wow. The faint straw colour and the notes of hay and white flower blossom on the bouquet are simply a warm-up for the main event that follows: amazingly fresh and vibrant citrus and oyster shell notes carried on the long palate to the finish and aftertaste. This is oh so fresh." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

Additional Info

From The Producer

Fiano is a variety that originates in Campagna Italy. It is climatically well suited to McLaren Vale, particularly as it retains excellent levels of natural acidity as the fruit ripens.

Fiano has relatively small berries and thick skins perfect for creating a style with plenty of structure and texture. We've worked with the naturally generous phenolics by incorporating skin contact during fermentation and oxidatively handling the juice prior to barrel fermentation in old French oak.

The result is a wine of fresh natural acidity, citrus and almond meal flavours with a full textural mouth fell.
