About the Wine
The La Spinetta Sangiovese is a great introduction to Sangiovese from Tuscany. It has a vivid ruby colour and an intense nose of violets, red fruits and spice, with great balance between the acid and tannin, with the oak staying mostly in the background due to the use of old barrels during maturation.
As it now has a few years behind it, the wine has developed some bottle-age characters such as leather, smoke and chocolate. While it's drinking really well now, it could also be cellared for a few more years. Naturally, this would be a great wine for any kind of tomato-based pasta dish or with pizza.
About La Spinetta
Founded in 1977 and now run by the 2nd generation Giorgio Rivetti, La Spinetta, unlike many traditional estates was not handed down through the generation, rather it was a slow and thoughtful expansion based on a considered approach to finding the best sites to produce wines.
All their vineyards have a south, south-east or south-west exposure maximising summer sunshine, while also having some age to them.
Giorgio takes a modern approach in the winery, while at the same focusing on traditional vineyard management; year-round care, low yields, and absolutely no chemical inputs.
