About The Wine

Sam Scott's affinity with Italian varieties began with his first encounter with Sangiovese. It's a variety with which many winemakers struggle their whole life.

With this release, Sam has absolutely nailed it. The trick with Sangiovese is to maintain drinkability, harnessing the power and tannin inherent in the variety and making approachable, accessible versions which suit our Australian palates.

This is one of the most charming versions of this variety to be found anywhere in the country, ideal for enthusiasts and newcomers to the variety, alike.

About Scott Wines

Sam Scott has a clear vision for his Scott and La Prova labels - Italian inspired wines done with an Australian sensibility.

Utilising his retail, winemaking and viticultural experience, he has crafted a range of interesting, charming wines from select vineyards through Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Langhorne Creek.

They are vibrant and fruit-forward but with a savoury twist and great varietal character. Value-for-money wise, the range is up there with the best in the country.

Sam is an excellent guy and a supremely talented winemaker, as James Halliday noted, “Scott is a star in the making.”

From The Producer

I am gradually getting a greater proportion of smaller berry clones into the mix and this is the future for the variety I think. The smaller berry clones (Piccolo, MAT6 and MAT 7) are still medium weight and savoury, but come with the benefits of 1. more character, where H6V6 on its own is little bony and 2. better resistance to disease, in particular botrytis.

These vineyards are well established now and the Blows is planted to Piccolo and H6V6 on ironstone flecked sandy soil over red clay, the Shining Rock to MAT 6 and MAT 7 on sandy loam with sandstone and quartz running through, and Amadio to H6V6 in  grey loamy sand over weathered bedrock.. These are all warm sites but are planted on the cooler aspects.
