About The Wine

This is the flagship offering from towering Barossa icon John Duval. It's made up of the best Shiraz fruit of the vintage, treated to the best French oak, then bottled in heavy glass and sealed with the best cork John can source.

It's a wine that loudly proclaims its Barossan heritage. It's powerful and structured and built to greatly reward the patient. It's a wine of impressive volume handled with great skill.

If you are looking for top flight Barossa Shiraz for the cellar, then the Eligo will fit that slot perfectly.

About John Duval

John Duval is an international winemaking legend, and one of our country's bonafide wine superstars. For 29 years he was a winemaker (16 years as chief) at Barossa Valley winery Penfolds, and was responsible during that time for putting together Grange and his signature wine, the RWT.

For the last decade plus, Duval has spent his time traversing the globe, making high-quality wines in Europe, the North-West of the USA and even Chile. But his love remains the Barossa Valley, with his private label wines representing a chance to try some stunning wines at very reasonable prices.

Now with his own label (established in 2003) in full-flight and his son Tim stepping into the family business, John's legacy as one of the Barossa Valley's finest winemakers of his generation continues to grow.

Critic Reviews

95Points
The Wine Front

"Coffee grounds and black berries, peppermint and peppercorns, licorice and malted milk. It’s a substantial red wine, mouth filling in the true sense of the words and yet balanced, finessed and stitched appropriately with fine-grained tannin. Nothing is out of place; this river is both sheer and deep." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

97Points
Halliday Wine Companion

"John Duval is a master blender. This is all about the best of the vintage, fruit from various sites across the Barossa and Eden Valleys, to morph into the mighty Eligo. A powerhouse of flavour yet never loses focus. Dark plums infused with star anise, cinnamon, Dutch licorice and soy sauce. Full-bodied with velvety rich tannins. It gets the most oak - French hogsheads 54% new, aged 18 months, and needs time to settle in. It will." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
