About The Wine
Ever on the hunt for something new, here, Jared Dixon, winemaker behind the Jilly label, takes on some of the alternative varieties thriving amongst the diverse viticultural sites in New England.
The 2017 Big Cats is a Portuguese-inspired red blend featuring Touriga Nacional and Tempranillo.
These varieties complement each other wonderfully in this release, bringing slinky tannins and exotic spice to a medium bodied framework. Jared's soft touch in the winery has balanced this perfectly.
With only 100 dozen made and the interest around Jared's brand, Big Cats won't be around for long
Jared Dixon is a lone ranger on his own mission in the New England wine region.
His wines are made from interesting varieties grown on unique vineyards, sites he classes as ‘undiscovered gems.’ His winemaking is extremely hands-off, allowing the full expression of the fruit to be the focus of every wine. They are fun, don't take themselves too seriously and have a distinct energy about them.
Jared is one of Northern NSW's most exciting and impassioned young winemakers. Where he takes his idiosyncratic label from here is anyone's guess.
