2017 Jericho Rosé

Adelaide Hills, SA

Trophy-winning, delicious debut Rosé from the talented Jericho family.

About the Wine

Jericho can seemingly do no wrong, and so it came as no surprise when their first crack at Rosé resulted in the Trophy for Best Rosé at the 2017 Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

It's an Adelaide Hills blend of co-fermented Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, from one of the Jericho's favourite vineyards with a splash of Pinot Gris added thereafter to complete the wine.

It's beautifully packaged as with all the Jericho wines, and if you're looking for a bright, bouncy Rosé with a bit of interest then this is just great buying.

About Jericho

Jericho is one of the most exciting emerging producers in South Australia, consistently churning out delicious, characterful and brilliantly priced wines in all styles.

Family owned and run with experienced winemaker Neil Jericho at the helm, they source both traditional and alternative varieties from various vineyards around McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. Neil sums up the Jericho philosophy: “in every wine I like to see varietal flavour and character. I don’t want to overpower the fruit with oak. It’s got to be in balance, with nothing sticking out. They’ve got to be drinkable!”

Modern, creative and smashable wines and across the range, amazing value.

From the Producer

It was interesting when we got together to do a bench mark tasting of Rosé wines. The result, we decided to use a blend of family related varieties to create a unique blend. Pinot Noir (the sister), Pinot Meunier (the brother) and Pinot Gris (the cousin, as Pinot Gris being a mutation of the Pinot Noir variety). In making this wine, we searched the Adelaide Hills to find a suitable vineyard that had both Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier planted on the same vineyard. This was important as it allowed us to pick, crush, press and co-ferment Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier together. We later blended a small amount of the Pinot Gris, which rounded off and balanced the finished wine.

The Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vineyard is an outstanding vineyard; it is on extremely steep slopes, very rocky and north facing. 2017 season was very late and it allowed the fruit to ripen in a very cool time of the year when most fruit in the Hills had been picked.

The soft drying tannins, balanced acidity and fruit complexity has resulted in a wine that can be paired with a variety of food. Perfect with lighter dishes, seafood, fresh salads or simply enjoyed on its own.

Add a dash of tonic water, and a slice of lemon or fresh peach, that adds a slight sweetness and brings out some different flavours!
