Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

About The Wine

Campbell Mattinson named Jericho as a "Tiny producer making excellent wines." which pretty much sums it up.

This is a fantastic take on an often misunderstood wine style. The key to this wine is the harmony struck between oak and fruit by winemaker Neil and Andrew Jericho. Balanced to perfection, this is one of the classiest examples of Fume Blanc in the country.

The 2017 is an intelligently built wine which Campbell Mattinson awarded an impressive 93 points.

A delightful wine for lovers of textural whites.

About Jericho

Jericho is one of the most exciting emerging producers in South Australia, consistently churning out delicious, characterful and brilliantly priced wines in all styles.

Family owned and run with experienced winemaker Neil Jericho at the helm, they source both traditional and alternative varieties from various vineyards around McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. Neil sums up the Jericho philosophy: “in every wine I like to see varietal flavour and character. I don’t want to overpower the fruit with oak. It’s got to be in balance, with nothing sticking out. They’ve got to be drinkable!”

Modern, creative and smashable wines and across the range, amazing value.

From The Producer

This is not your typical Sauvignon Blanc. Inspired by wines of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation in France, barrel fermented in old French oak and aged on lees for 5 months. Allowing the yeast autolysis to give spice, complexity and a soft luscious texture. The style of Fumé Blanc gives the wine elegance and interest from barrel fermentation, while the classic fresh and tropical fruit varietal characters remain.

The high altitude of the Kuitpo vineyard in the Southern Adelaide Hills is ideal for this variety. Allowing slower ripening and giving complexity and elegance. Shallow, well drained soils also allow full concentration of flavours in the fruit and a mineral acidity crucial for this style of wine.

Blend : Sauvignon Blanc (100%)

"Single vineyard, Adelaide Hills, sauvignon blanc, matured in older oak for six months.Fruit power with plenty of drive, for starters, but textural elements and a touch of funk too. A bit of this, that and the other. Grapefruit, tropical fruit, gooseberry, flint and dried, lemongrass-y herbs. Everything here feels beautifully composed; indeed elegant." - Campbell Mattinson (the Wine Front)
