About the Wine
A 'true' Pinot Gris in that the natural copper pink skin of the grape coming into the wine itself through some extended skin contact.
Wild-fermented to complete dryness, this is a slightly skinsy, textural wine with heaps of bounce and flavour, the quince/ poached pear spectrum.
Some time in French oak adds richness and structure to an intriguing release.
About Hans Herzog
With over 500 years of winemaking history in his family, Swiss winemaker Hans Herzog picked up his life in Zurich wine country, and with his wife Therese, headed for New Zealand. In 1994, they established one of the most stunning vineyards in the heart of the Marlborough region, planting an astonishing 29 varieties on their small patch of land.
They tend the vineyard with immense love and care. Everything is grown organically. Hans crafts premium, idiosyncratic wines that show the beauty of his vineyard in every glass and shares these wines with every person who comes to dine at their fine estate.
As The Wine Front's Gary Walsh once noted, there's "Never a dull moment when you open a wine from Hans Herzog."
