About The Wine

Stonegarden is one of the most famous vineyards in the Barossa Valley.

These old, legendary vines produce some of the most earth-shatteringly powerful fruit in the whole region. Brett Grocke has tended these vines for many years, when he picks the fruit, he knows it intimately.

This is an imperious wine. Bold, polished, unabashed an imminently cellar-worthy. It's Grenache from one of the country's great viticultural resources and it's treated with due respect by the winemaker.

With 97 points from James Halliday, this is the perfect option for lovers of serious, premium Barossa Grenache.

About Eperosa

Eperosa is Brett Grocke's heart and soul.

Grocke is a fifth generation born and raised Barossa viticulturalist/winemaker. Eperosa is the vessel through which he tells the stories of the small patches of the Barossa which he has cared for his whole life. He works with long-established vineyards planted on ancient soils and channels the regional warmth, richness and power of the Barossa with a deft artist's touch.

These wines are honest, robust and made with minimal intervention. A true representation of the modern Barossa with old vines and a rich family heritage as the backdrop.

Grocke's star is on the rise, being named James Halliday's Winemaker of the Year for 2021.

From The Producer

Stonegarden 1858 Grenache is from one of the oldest vineyards in Australia dating back to 1858. From 1858 to 1962 the winery and vineyard was established by David Randall 3.3km East of the township of Springton. winery is now heritage listed and still has 6 of the original fortified vats of some 20,000L sitting in the cavity of the saw tooth roof. The vineyard lies at 390m above sea level in a rain shadow allowing the site to ripen fruit late into Autumn. The Grenache is from the original 1858 bush-vine planting with a total area of 8.5Ha planted at 2.4m x 2.4m vine spacing. While predominantly Grenache the block also contains Mataro, Shiraz and Malbec and is usually the last parcel of fruit to be harvested in the Eperosa vintage. All the fruit was handpicked and hand sorted prior to fermentation. After 15 months the wine was gently hand racked from barrel with no fining or filtration before bottling. wine is remarkably powerful and complex while sitting in a bright, distinctly Grenache profile.

The Wine Front

"This is from the oldest vineyard in the Eperosa band - indeed it is the oldest I know of that has remained in constant production, and is now heritage-listed. It fills the mouth with sweet dark fruit (not sugar-sweet) and a cage of fine, earthy tannins. It's a wine that I retasted numerous times, always finding new and delicious flavours and textures to enjoy. Includes 3% mataro and 2% shiraz." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)
