2017 Eastern Peake Pinot Tache

Ballarat, VIC

Hands down one of the country's best Rosés. Another gem from Owen Latta.

One of the better rose wines made in this country.

About The Wine

Here is the newest Rosé from young Owen Latta, the exciting winemaker at Ballarat boutique producer, Eastern Peake/Latta Vino.

This is a dead serious Rosé made with intent and supreme craftsmanship.

The Pinot Noir fruit sees more than a year on lees after being barrel fermented, a long, slow process to get to bottle and it's entirely worth the wait. The added time on lees and in barrel takes the textural elements of this wine into the stratosphere. It's a Rosé made as a fine wine, showcasing the complexity achievable in this wine style.

One word of warning, this is highly addictive, something you may need more than just one bottle.

About Eastern Peake/Latta Vino

Is anyone working as hard as Owen Latta to put Ballarat in the mix of Australia's foremost wine regions? At only 15 years old he completed his first vintage at Eastern Peake alongside his father and has since taken on the full-time running of the business.

Owen is the man primarily responsible for both the Eastern Peake and Latta wines, the former of which being dedicated to premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Eastern Peake vineyard, and the latter being Owen's personal project all about innovation from a range of excellent central Victorian vineyards.

The wines are all gently brought to life with very astute yet hands-off winemaking, and Owen's low and zero-sulphur wines are some of the best examples in the country. These are thrilling, absolutely unique Victorian wines, and quite simply Owen Latta is one of Australia's finest young winemakers.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"Colour: Very Light salmon, the result of overnight grape skin contact. Nose: Fresh lifted berry characters, with a hint of toast from the lees contact. Palate: Intense berry fruit flavour with a clean, crisp, dry, and savoury finish." - Owen Latta, winemaker

The Wine Front

"One of the better rose wines made in this country. Marches to the beat of its own drum, and that’s a good thing. It’s smoky, smells like Pinot Noir, but sotto voce, smoke, dried herbs and orange peel, redcurrant and white cherry. It’s tangy and slightly wild, has zest and spring, a lot of savoury work and chalky texture, cranberry acidity, and really zips through the finish with blood orange and amaro twang. Wonderful." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
