Pykeys Merlot is named after my late uncle Frank Pyke - total champion of a man... A very fun loving wine just like old Frank.
About The Wine
This crazy little creation is a new addition to the Dormilona range - a 'nouveau' styled Merlot from delicious biodynamically farmed fruit in Margaret River.
This was fermented in an oak vessel as whole berries, a winemaking technique most often applied to varieties such as Gamay or Pinot Noir. Surprisingly, the juicy, jubey characters that carbonic maceration imparts works wonders with the lush plummy fruit that Merlot shows.
It's built as a Sunday slurping style of wine. No additions, no oak ageing, just bouncy Margaret River Merlot with lots of personality.
Josephine Perry is one of the most exciting emerging producers in Margaret River. Her Dormilona label is setting a new tone for the region.
A self-confessed 'lazy-bones' winemaker, Jo is low-intervention in the winery, instead focusing her energies on the quality of fruit that she brings in the winery.
She uses only organically and biodynamically farmed fruit from high-quality vineyards across Margaret River, and is bringing an alt-styling to the way she produces the hero varieties of this famous region.
