About The Wine

With a long, illustrious history in the home of Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux, the Portets know a thing or two about the grape.

In the Yarra Valley they have found a place to produce a refined style of Cabernet, this is their "drinking not thinking" model.

Picked for freshness and to be "silky, juicy and open", this is the more approachable side of this noble variety.

For $22 this would have to be one of the best Cabernet buys in the whole country!

About Dominique Portet

Dominique Portet, quite simply, is international winemaking royalty. From a winemaking family that stretches back 10 generations in Bordeaux, his father Andre Portet was régisseur (vineyard and winery manager) of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac.

He is one of the original “Flying Winemakers”, having scoured the world in search of new and interesting exploits in wine which eventually lead him to the Yarra Valley.

Here Portet found “... wines with a fragrance and structure reminiscent of the wines of Bordeaux. The Yarra has a charm and a beauty that engulfs you, and its wines are worldly” and chose this as his home away from home.

"Affordable offering from Dominique Portet. And a good one. Lovely example of Yarra Valley cabernet. It kind of creeps up on you, in a positive way. It’s mid weight at most but it refreshes as it flows; there’s a fine-fingered, latticework of tannin but it’s mostly a wine of momentum and poise. The more I looked at it the more I liked it. It will steer calmly/confidently into the mid term too. Elegance. And value." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Additional Info

From The Producer

This is about enjoyment. It’s no secret that we love Cabernet Sauvignon and its ability to produce venerable wines – but this is more about drinking than thinking. It shows how this noble grape variety can be soft and silky, juicy and open – you’ve just got to treat it right.

This is bright, fresh and eminently swallowable, with ripe fruit flavours of blackcurrants and plums, a touch of fresh liquorice, a lick of spice and mellow tannins.
