About The Wine

Elodie Balme is one of the hottest young producers in the Côtes-du-Rhône.

She started producing her own wines in 2006, taking the 6 hectares of old vines she inherited from her father and expanding that to 14 hectares, becoming one of the darlings of the Paris wine bar scene in the process. Her winemaking is heavily influence by Marcel Richaud, considered by many as the godfather of natural wine in the Rhone Valley.

This, her 'Rastea', is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, aged in predominantly concrete vats and bottled with no fining or filtration. It shows the natural floral aromatics and sweet spices that Grenache in the part of the world is renowned for.

Only a small amount of Elodie's wines make it to Australia. Jump quick if you want to try one of the Rhone's best young talents.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"The Grenache structure combined with Syrah brings a remarkable balance. This northern grape gives this touch of violet and spices. Mourvèdre spreads notes of candied fruit and undergrowth and carignan completes the structure for its deep color and aging. Like all well-structured wines, the Rasteau is a companion to sauced meats, game (wild boar) and Provencal beef stew." - Elodie Balme, winemaker
