About The Wine

McLaren Vale could make a claim as the home of Fiano in Australia, with so many top-notch versions coming from its sandy soils now. Well, here's another from the Dodgy Bros collective.

It's from a vineyard in the Sellicks Foothills of the Vale. Picked with freshness in mind, a little barrel ferment, a little ageing in older hogsheads, no additions except a touch of sulphur - it all seems to be spot on from the guys. It's not hard to see why so many people are turning to this variety.

Texture, freshness, weight but without sweetness, it's a top-notch drink. Gary Walsh offered an emphatic "YES" with his 93 point review and pegged it as "Wonderful, textural, interesting Fiano." which sums it up nicely.

Lovely Fiano here, time to back up the truck, or the boat, to load up on this little ripper.

About Dodgy Bros

What started as a small garage winemaking project for viticulturalist Peter Bolte, has grown into a full-time fun-filled winemaking gig.

With fruit secured from top growers with a handshake, Peter, along with Canadian winemaker Wes Pearson and 'grower extraordinaire' Peter Sommerville are now making tasty treats in a wide range of styles from excellent McLaren Vale sites.

The Dodgy Bros wines don't take themselves too seriously. These are adventurous and energetic wines with plenty of personality.

The Wine Front

"Wonderful, textural, interesting Fiano. Pear, almonds, spice, dried herbs, almost a dusting of white pepper, maybe a little quince paste? Or maybe I’m just getting a bit peckish? Good flavour, savoury and subtly fruity, with fine acidity, and white pepper tannin and seasoning, freshened by tangy ripe lemon and tightened by chalky feels. Pretty good length. It’s a big YES from me here." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Additional Info

From The Producer

1.5t harvested on 13/3/17 from the Lacey vineyard in the Sellicks Foothills sub region of McLaren Vale. Destemmed, then gently whole berry pressed. Free run juice straight to 1 hogshead, the rest cold settled and racked leaving 15% solids for primary ferment in tank. No adjustments.

Barrel was wild fermented with the tank portion fermented cool using cultured yeast. Post primary ferment the wines were racked to 6yr old French oak hogsheads, and transported to a 0° cold room, where they remained for 3 months with no SO2.

This was done to keep the active yeast culture alive, to better augment the textural components of the wine, while preventing malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked prior to bottling with a small amount of SO2 added. Bottled 21/6/17, 88 cases produced. 12.0% alc/vol. Artwork by Saul Matthews.
