About The Wine
"Champs de Cerises" is the French term for Cherry Fields, named for the single block in the Upper Yarra Valley that this wine comes from. This vineyard was once a cherry orchard, now winemaker Shaun Crinion considers it the jewel of the vineyards he works with.
This is his most powerful and high-tensile Chardonnay from the exceptional 2017 vintage.
It sees a touch more new oak than the Appelation Chardonnay from the same vintage and also spends more time on lees which Shaun thinks highlights more of the unique qualities derived from the vineyard in the wine.
This is an electric Chardonnay - tight, inwardly concentrated and precise. It is a wine that will develop beautifully in the cellar.
Dappled is a producer to get on early. Owner/winemaker Shaun Crinion has a mountain of winemaking experience from round the globe, culminating in recent years with the establishment of this, his own label.
Shaun's focus is in expressing the regionality of the Yarra Valley through simply gorgeous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, sourced from a range of Upper and Lower Yarra vineyards.
Through his vineyard connections, brilliantly astute winemaking and a desire to keep his wines approachable to all, the value on offer in the Dappled range is second to none.
James Halliday named Dappled as his Best New Winery in his 2018 Wine Companion and it's not hard to see why.
