About The Wine

There is something of a golden patch for Cabernet in the Lower Yarra.

This is where the likes of Mount Mary and Yeringberg have forged their reputations for producing some of the country's finest Cabernets and Cabernet blends.

At the bottom of the Yeringberg slope, a stone's throw from that legendary vineyard, sits the little family property of Bruce Lang. He's a man who quietly tends his grapes, Cabernet mainly, but with patches of Malbec, Shiraz and Pinot Noir in the ground.

He makes his wine with a hodgepodge of equipment, everything done by hand. The wines he makes, without fanfare, seriously over deliver.

The Cabernet is smoking value if you love the mid-weight Claret styles the Yarra has become adored for.

About Dalla Mia Finestra

Dalla Mia Finestra is the micro scale vineyard and winery of Bruce and Jo-Anne Lang and their family.

Finestra's evolution has been a natural development, which began from a long standing fascination with wine and a love of the picturesque Yarra Valley. Acquired as a green-field site in 1986 the first Finestra's vines were planted in 1989. Until 2002 all grapes were sold to larger local wineries and in 2003, once the vines were fully mature, the first wines were produced under the Finestra label.

Today the approach at Finestra embraces low intervention viticulture and winemaking, producing small quantities of wine with a focus on quality. Along with the marketing, all of the responsibilities at Finestra are carried out by the owners who consider it to be a creative release and labour of love.

From The Producer

Dalla Mia Finestra is the micro scale vineyard and winery of Bruce and Jo-Anne Lang and their family.

Finestra's evolution has been a natural development, which began from a long standing fascination with wine and a love of the picturesque Yarra Valley. The relationship with wine-growing in the Yarra Valley started in the early 1970's when vacation employment provided an introduction to this re-emerging region and seeded a fascination with viticulture and the winemaking process. Later in the 70's a small quarter acre vineyard was planted in Seville and experience broadened in the Beechworth district when, with friends, the old Everton Hills vineyard was acquired.

Today the approach at Finestra embraces low intervention viticulture and winemaking, producing small quantities of wine with a focus on quality. Along with the marketing, all of the responsibilities at Finestra are carried out by the owners who consider it to be a creative release and labour of love.

The Wine Front

"It has perfume, but also a sort of earthy dried herb gravitas, blackcurrant and redcurrant. Medium-bodied, firm dense tannin, a little vanilla and tobacco, and a long and defined finish. Gee, they’ve delivered a beauty in 2017. Get into it." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

"The wine from this range that I found attractive so long ago. Mid-weighted and savoury, although a little hotter this year. Akin to a Petit Chateaux style: currant, herb and sage to bouquet garni scents, skirting along a bow of gently rustic astringency. Nothing polished necessarily, but nourishing, brimming with personality and good drinking." - Ned Goodwin (Halliday Wine Companion)
