About

About The Wine

Patrick and Dianne Carmody replanted their small farm in Sunbury in 1979. Their first commercial release was the 1980 vintage Shiraz. And, as they say, the rest was history.

It may be the Shiraz that gets the lion's share of attention at Craiglee, but the Cabernet is excellent and very well priced.

Built in a sumptuous medium-bodied style, this is a perfect example of cool-climate Cabernet that will drink beautifully now or cellar over the medium term.

About Craiglee

In 1976, as a newly graduated Agricultural student, Pat Carmody was faced with the challenge of reinvigorating the Carmody family farm on the outskirts of Sunbury - a small town 40 minutes from Melbourne and just up the road from Tullamarine Airport.

Pat decided to plant vines on part of the site. It wasn't an altogether blind move - Craiglee had originally been a winery in the 1860s, however it was nevertheless a bold and pioneering decision for the time.

Flash forward forty plus years from the first vintage in 1978 and Craiglee has firmly cemented itself as one of the finest producers of Shiraz and Chardonnay in Australia.

And it's still completely owned and run by Pat and his wife Dianne.

From The Producer

Today, Pat continues to make wine from fruit grown, hand-picked and bottled at Craiglee, and is involved in every step of the process (alongside his wife Dianne and the constant companionship of their Border Collies, Bessie and Rowdy). The family-run winery prioritises sustainable practices, using the same bluestone winery that was in use 150+ years ago, as well as solar power, waste water and methods that protect soil structure, maintain carbon levels and benefit the surrounding environment.

For over 40 years, Pat’s approach to winemaking has been resolutely founded on a respect for the site’s history, a dedication to craft and a commitment to producing wines that reflect the terroir of Craiglee.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

Craiglee may release the most underpriced icon wines in Australia. Shiraz rightfully stands atop the dais but his Cabernet is a middleweight delight. Never afraid of tannin, this has a savoury outer-fence around a garden of lush high-tone blackberries. - DD Wine Crew

Beautiful cool climate cabernet

Medium bodied and quite fine-boned. So easy to drink - a very good lunch time claret option. An elegant and classy wine, as with all of the Craiglee wines. This is savoury and structured rather than being fruit driven.

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
