About The Wine
The visionary team at Coriole in Mclaren Vale have been pioneers of Italian varietals since 1985, making them one of the godfathers of Mediterranean wines in this country.
The famous Shiraz region has become a second home for the rustic varietals native to Italy and Spain, and Coriole's Barbera is a first class example.
It's a juicy, jubey, boisterous style of red which will take you by the hand and lead you on down to flavour town.
A delicious 'drink me now' red and undoubtedly one of the country's most loveable Barberas!
Coriole is a McLaren Vale institution.
It's a winery with two sides. On one hand, they craft classic regional versions of Shiraz and Cabernet which are exemplary. On the other, they have been a trailblazer for emerging varieties (Italian varieties, in particular) in Australia.
Owner and winemaker, Mark Lloyd was one of the first in the country to experiment with Sangiovese and Fiano and has been hugely influential in bringing these varieties into the Australian wine zeitgeist.
Today, Mark's son Duncan has taken over the winemaking duties and the experimentation with emerging varieties continues. Nero d'Avola, Negroamaro, Piquepoul have come into the fold.
Coriole never stands still. They are trailblazers that have had a huge impact on the changing face of modern Australian wine.
