This is a great value introduction to Jim Chatto's masterful work with the Pinot Noir grape.

Jim sources fruit from across Tasmania for this wine. Only 15% of it sees new oak, the pristine fruit from the excellent 2017 season sits firmly front and centre.

To get a Tasmanian Pinot Noir at this price made by one of the country's finest winemakers is a bit of a coup.

Gary Walsh described it as, "Restrained, and quite sophisticated." A bargain buy for the Pinot Noir fan.

About Chatto Wines

Jim Chatto is revered as one of the finest winemakers currently working in Australia. 

His recent reinvigoration at Mount Pleasent in the Hunter Valley has received phenomenal critical acclaim, as has his personal Tasmanian project, Chatto wines.

After purchasing a plot of land that Jim describes as "right on the edge of viticultural possibility", planting began in 2007.

In only a short amount of time, this site has produced some extraordinary wines and looks set to become one of the Apple Isle most prized viticultural assets.

"Savoury styling with some smokiness, cherry and strawberry, a bit of lift, some rosiness and spice. It’s fine and leaner in style, but does deliver flavour, has a pleasing sort of ‘mineral’ feel to the acidity, very fine dusty tannin, and smoky autumn leaf and roses trailing in the finish. Restrained, and quite sophisticated. Feels pretty young right now, and suspect it has a bit more to come." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Vineyard: The 2017 Mania Pinot Noir is crafted using the fruit sourced from three distinct regional zones across Tasmania. An individual vineyard from each of the Huon Valley, Tamar Valley and the East Coast of Tasmania and including multiple clones have been masterfully blended contributing great nuance and detail to the wine. 
Winemaking: The fruit for this wine was hand-picked and hand-sorted. Wild yeast fermented and periodically hand plunged, this is a wine showcasing fruit generosity and vibrancy supported by the gentler handling in the winery. The wine was matured for 10 months in French oak puncheons of which 15% was new.
