About the Wine
Instantly appealing pleasurable young Bordeaux is a rarity. Rarer still... if it is from a small family-owned producer that is certified biodynamic and organic and uses minimal inputs.
This Peybonhomme estate rouge from the Cotes de Blaye appellation is dominantly Merlot with some Cab Franc and Malbec.
Fresh, charming and energetic red full of plum, blackberry and bay leaf flavours, with a just a lick of ripe powdery tannin. 90% fermented and raised in concrete, with the rest in old oak. Unfined and unfiltered
About Chateau Peybonhomme
Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours and Château de Grolet, both run by the Hubert Familly, sit on the opposite bank of the mighty Gironde estuary - with good binoculars you can make out some overpriced Margaux and Pauillac producers. But there is little Cabernet Sauvignon here as this is outstanding Merlot and Cabernet Franc country.
The wines and vineyards dismantle every Bordeaux stereotype imaginable. Certified organic and biodynamic, unfined and unfiltered, super low-yields, absolutely minimal sulphur and wines that are approachable on release and ridiculous value.
