Lovely Wine
James Halliday
About This Wine
From fruit grown at Angullong vineyard in Orange, this is a concentrated Shiraz with nice aromatic lift from the small addition of Viognier.
Aromatically complexity, the addition of the white grape adds a nice roundness to the palate as well. On the nose there are ripe dark fruits, sweet spice with a subtle influence for the new oak component. Full-bodied the palate is ripe and elegant, with a core of silky tannin.
An aged release, the wine has a nice evolved feel now, yet with the backbone to carry it, for a few more years with ease.
About Centennial Vineyards
Established in 2001, Centennial Vineyards in the Southern Highlands of NSW was the first winery in this GI to be awarded a 5-star rating by Halliday.
Since its inception they have had one winemaker; transplanted Kiwi Tony Cosgriff.
While the core of their wines are from the high-elevation region south of Sydney, they also have a more recently planted vineyard in Orange, which is farmed sustainably and in conversion to organics.
While mainly known for their exceptional sparkling wines, their foray into Orange has allowed them to grow their range, with new plantings of a more diverse range of varietals.
