About The Wine
A McLaren Vale producer's range would not be complete without a Shiraz, and Brad Hickey’s (AKA Brash Higgins) does not disappoint.
The fruit for his ‘SHZ’ was hand selected from the now organically certified Omensetter vineyard in the Vale, a vineyard renowned for producing a distinctively savoury style of Shiraz.
A wine of balance, finesse and class, a different slant on the McLaren Vale flagship variety. This is where interest and deliciousness meet in Shiraz land.
About Brash Higgins
Brash Higgins is the label of winemaking American-turned-honorary-Aussie, Brad Hickey.
In his former life, Hickey was one of America's top sommeliers, working for many years crafting some of New York's finest wine lists. He came to Australia and fell in love with McLaren Vale and local vigneron Nicole Thorpe, with whom he now produces highly characterful, minimalist wines from their much loved Omensetter vineyard.
Hickey's wines are extremely expressive. They fall in two camps - the wines sourced from Omensetter vineyard and those sourced from friends around the Vale and the warm, dry Riverlands.

From The Producer
Made from 19 year old shiraz vines grown at the BH estate Omensetter Vineyard. Vinted from hand selected fruit, 25% whole bunch, and sent to open one ton fermenters for 3 weeks. Wild yeast did their job and then it all was basket pressed and sent to a mix of 1-8 year old French hogsheads for 15 months. 2017 in the Vale is cooler year, particularly a bit of rain in Decemeber, we've seen resulting in softer wines with lower alcohol, but good spice. This the fourth vintage the SHZ was made entirely at the BH winery and the first under full Organic certification.
'Blood plum in hue, the nose of the Brash 16 SHZ is brooding with black plums, chorizo, blood orange zest, spicy paprika, nutmeg and liquorice. There's a sweet earthy note that is typical of Omensetter Vineyard's red clay. The palate is generous, well-balanced and smooth, the tannins integrated, and the finish long with complex, interweaving berry and spice notes.' - Brad Hickey

"Tasted blind in a bracket of 20 something South Australian Shiraz, and this wine was noticeably different. Violet perfume like Port, juicy blueberry, chocolate. Fleshy, a lot of blueberry skin tannin, malt, and a lot more tannin, sweetness of fruit, good length. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
