I’d be hard pressed keeping my hands off a wine like this – I hope my local pub or bistro stocks it. One of those.

About The Wine

The ‘R/SM’ is Brash Higgins' single vineyard “field blend” of two of the most underrated white varieties in the country, Riesling and Semillon.

The two varieties are dry grown side by side on a tiny vineyard in the foothills of McLaren Vale. Both varieties are picked on the same day, basket pressed and co-fermented in old French barriques. These two varieties strike a remarkable balance and harmony.

It's a "Delicious, refreshing stuff" according to Mike Bennie and without a doubt, one of the best releases of this wine to date.

About Brash Higgins

Brash Higgins is the label of winemaking American-turned-honorary-Aussie, Brad Hickey.

In his former life, Hickey was one of America's top sommeliers, working for many years crafting some of New York's finest wine lists. He came to Australia and fell in love with McLaren Vale and local vigneron Nicole Thorpe, with whom he now produces highly characterful, minimalist wines from their much loved Omensetter vineyard.

Hickey's wines are extremely expressive. They fall in two camps - the wines sourced from Omensetter vineyard and those sourced from friends around the Vale and the warm, dry Riverlands.

If you want 'classic' McLaren Vale, or if you want the true avant-garde, it's all available in the Brash Higgins range.

The Wine Front

"Beautiful perfume showing frangipani floral characters, whiffs of ginger and lemongrass spice, preserved lemon. Savoury scents. Right on. Tight and racy across the palate, it’s an energetic rush of pristine-feeling, crisp, cool attractive-bitter fruit character. Almost tonic-like in a way, definitively feels like a seaside wine. Delicious, refreshing stuff. What a cracking wine." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Additional Info

From The Producer

A 'field blend' is an ensemble of different grapes from one vineyard block that are picked on the same day and fermented together, making a unique wine of place or a 'vin de terroir'. Our version is from an elevated site along the Kangarilla foothills of McLaren Vale where one acre of Riesling (65%) and Semillon (35%), unusual bedmates, grow cheek by jowl.

Picked on the same day, basket-pressed together then co-fermented wild in trusty barriques, this bright white wine has all the limey pucker and saline lift of a fresh margarita. Great summer drinking and a riot with oysters. We are proud that this wine tastes like the place from where it comes, 20 km from the Gulf of St. Vincent, a true coastal white.

Blend : Riesling (65%), Semillon (35%)
ABV : 11.9%
Closure : Screw cap
Drink Until : 2024
