2017 BK Wines One Ball Chardonnay

Adelaide Hills, SA

The Adelaide Hills is knocking out some cracking Chardonnay at the moment and this is a great example.

About The Wine

This is very much a 'modern' Australian Chardonnay - with the typical Aussie fruit flavours and subtle creamy French oak balanced by minerality, smoke and acidity.

BK has a way with Chardonnay. He loves to pick early looking for tension and crisp acidity as he backbone around which he can drape texture in the form of oak/lees etc.

The 2017 is probably his best One Ball yet, more elegant and more refined than it has ever been. It's a delicious glass of Chardonnay from a killer Hills producer.

What's not to love?

About BK Wines

BK Wines is one of the poster boys of the modern artisan wine movement in the Adelaide Hills.

Owner/winemaker Brendan Keys is not afraid to do things differently. His wines are all from single vineyards (some biodynamically farmed), fermented with wild yeasts, unfined and unfiltered, with extended skin contact and even clay fermentation eggs occasionally thrown in for good measure.

His wines are creatively imagined, an artist meets skateboarding punk rocker kind of vibe.

Brendan is one of the more respected producers of the Adelaide Hills avant-garde.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

This is what the new wave of Chardonnay is all about. The distinctive terroir of the Adelaide Hills shines through in this outstanding Chard. Lean and tightly coiled white peach and cashew nuts with suggestions of gun smoke and vanilla bean. I don't know how this bloke does it, every wine is just absolutely bang on! He walks the tightrope of creaminess versus minerality and structure seemingly effortlessly. You could say it's Burgundian but I think "Keys-ian" is more appropriate. Immense length and drive. Gold star, Mr Keys. - Different Drop Wine Team

Additional Info

From The Producer

An all-grown-up Chardonnay that would not fine itself lost on the streets of Burgundy. Soft and rounded with the complexity of experience but the precision that comes with absolutely nailing the picking date. There is much to be said for not forcing grapes to ripeness and the languorous conditions of the latter half of the 2017 vintage ensured restraint. Like a perfect peach individually wrapped in crisp, waxy paper, served with cream from a well-loved cow and sprinkled lightly with nutmeg.
