About The Wine
The 2017 is the latest release of this unique Australian Riesling.
This year saw an extended time on skins, and the same wild ferment in the Foudre as its first incarnation. Winemaker Justin Purser left a little residual sugar in the 2017 iteration, adding to the texture and voluptuousness of the style. But the thing that sets this majestic Riesling apart is the searing acid backbone which drives the wine from beginning to end.
This is one of Best's more limited release wines and is never made in large amounts but it rates consistently amongst the finest Rieslings in Victoria.

About Best's Great Western
Best's Great Western is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the country.
Their iconic Nursery Block is home to some of the oldest clonal material for particular varieties that can be found anywhere in the world. Established in the late 1860s, this precious vineyard is envied by much of the wine growing world.
Their wines are consistently excellent: the Shiraz dark and powerful, the Rieslings full flavoured and impeccably balanced, and the rare releases of Old Vine Meunier and Thomson Family Shiraz are some of the most collectable red wines in the country.
The Thomson family, and the Best family before them, have given us one of the true treasures of the Australian wine scene.

A Foudre is a a large oak barrel, and this is where the magic happens for this wine. In a reincarnation of wines from a past era, this wine shows the style of Rieslings that have aged in our cellars for the last 40 or so years. With some skin contact, fermented in oak and with wild yeast, this is a very natural style of wine.

Lemon and wild honey lathered atop the unmistakable funk of barrel ferment. Hints of quince and marmalade, toasted nuts, boy this smells great. Full throttle flavour in the mouth, this is no shrinking violet. The acidity attacks the palate with the accuracy of a rapier as the richness of the fruit, the barrel notes and the faint sweetness soften the blows. Why so few Australian producers use oak with riesling when there’s a ‘tradition’ of such is quite a curious thing, but you could also say has helped define a genre of sorts Down Under.Loaded with perfume and flavour, deeply textural, exquisite in drinkability. What’s not to like here? Scents of ripe citrus, green apple, faint cashew, whiff of musk. The palate is quietly powerful, exceptionally long, concentrated in fruit character and whooshes into the distance with freshness and detail hand-in-hand. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
