About The Wine
The brothers Bereche make fascinating off-beat Champagnes, but this small-production Rose might be their most interesting.
It's mostly Pinot Noir, with some Meunier and Chardonnay and it is all about the beautiful base wine, which was slowly fermented in old barrels on full lees. The second ferment is unusually done under cork, and after three years it is bottled with a very small dosage.
So perfumed, spicy, chalky and vinous. It's darker in colour than most Rose Champagnes, and is a great, great wine for drinking at the dinner table.
About Bereche et Fils
The Bereche estate was founded in 1847 by brothers Leon and Albert Bereche.
What began as a simple grower operation, selling the majority of their produce to bigger houses and keeping a small amount for themselves, has fully come into its own over the last few decades.
Today, the family operation is run by fifth generation brothers Raphael and Vincent Bereche, based in the small village of Ludes just to the south of Ludes. They have taken their family label to new heights. Both have studied vineyard management and oenology, both undertaken apprenticeships at larger houses to gain experience - now they are taking their family's wares to the world.
