About The Wine

This is a standout release of Bannockburn Shiraz.

Made from estate fruit with 20% whole bunches, this spent 2 years in French oak puncheons prior to release. It is a Shiraz that could not come from anywhere else. It has the stamp of the vineyard and a near perfect vintage writ large on every inch of it.

Spice and svelt tannin is a feature of the wine, as is a softness that only comes with a little time in bottle before release.

If you're a fan of Bannockburn or cool climate Shiraz, you're going to love this. It is a unique and charming drinking experience.

About Bannockburn

For decades, the Bannockburn vineyard has been producing Burgundian-inspired wines which truly reflect the winery's unique terroir.

Originally planted by the legendary Gary Farr, the wines that comes from this unique vineyard in Geelong show a rare sense of place. The ancient riverbed soils impart a distinct saline character and a power which makes the wines from this place immediately identifiable.

With the arrival of new head winemaker, Matt Holmes, the next chapter of Bannockburn's long history has commenced.

New ideas, a fresh take, the start of something new and exciting for this famous patch of earth.

From The Producer

Long, slow ripening of Shiraz grapes in this region produces a wine with fully developed flavours, elegance, spice and savoury complexity.

Budburst and harvest returned to long-term average timing, framing a season of only moderate warmth. This wine is a blend of grapes from all three of our Shiraz blocks: Range Rd. (planted 1974), Winery (planted 1990) and De La Roche (planted 2007) The soils range from dark loam, clay to volcanic scoria and basalt over limestone base. Harvested by hand March 28th through to April 7th.

The 2017 was wild fermented with just 10% whole bunches and spent two weeks on skins before being pressed, settled and racked to French oak puncheons (20% new) for 13 months élevage.

Blend : Shiraz (100%)
ABV : 12.50%
Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2028

Critic Reviews

The Wine Front

"This is low in alcohol, carries flashes of corn and truffle, is spicy and slightly vegetal too. In a good way, in my opinion. There’s a core of sweet berried fruit, silken texture, a general nuttiness and a finish that is both well sustained and riddled with complex, peppery, smoke-infused flavour. I looked at this over the course of 24 hours; it was screwed tight at first but it softened and relaxed considerably, though its laces remained intact. The level of complexity here is beyond average, let’s just say, and it’s been put to seamless effect." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

DDS review

"Harmonious and elegant dark red fruits, olives, black pepper and spice aromatics. A fine tannin structure underpins supple darker fruits and spice on the palate." - Bannockburn Vineyards
