Distinctive. Beautiful wine. You could twist my arm for 96 points.

About The Wine
This is Antonio Madeira's top red expression. He considers this his equivalent of a Grand Cru, if you will.
A thumping blend of over 20 native red varieties, the principal being the Baga grape, it showcases the beauty of growing grapes at these higher altitudes in Portugal, where you can get ripeness and power whilst maintaining a svelt, athletic frame.
Antonio ferments this wild without any additions aside a splash of sulphur to keep it fresh, searching for a pristine expression of his home terroir. A single vineyard, a field blend, a voice of a slope.
This is excellent, intriguing drinking for now or for the cellar.
About Antonio Madeira
Antonio Madeira is a winemaker of Portuguese decent, who was raised in France before returning to his home in the highlands of Portugal's Dao region to start his own label in 2011.
After rejuvenating some old, neglected vineyards high in the Serra da Estrela hills, Antonio set about producing a set of outstanding field blends that speak of his home. Biodynamic practices underpin the venture, as does a natural, Burgundian-inspired approach in the cellar.
Each wine is co-fermented. Antonio believes that grapes that grow together should go together. The resulting wines are startlingly pure - etched with clean lines, fresh acidity and crunchy mineral texture. Made in tiny quantities and mainlining a sense of place, these are exciting additions to the Portuguese landscape.
