About The Wine

Adrian Rodda's time at Oakridge under the esteemed David Bicknell shaped much of his skill set when crafting Chardonnay. And it certainly shows in his release of this wine from the renowned Willowlake vineyard.

This is a gorgeous Upper Yarra Chardonnay, cool, refined and elegant with fruit front and centre. The one-third new oak adding pitch-perfect framing for this release. Adrian has produced an excellent Chardonnay from the stunning 2017 Yarra Valley vintage.

Adrian took home the Trophy at the 2018 James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge, beating out a superb feild of 543 of the country's finest Chardonnays. This is a wine that Yarra Chardonnay fans can take to the bank.

2018 Halliday Chardonnay Challenge

Trophy for Best Chardonnay - "The cool 2017 vintage in the Yarra Valley resulted in purity, finesse and length in many lovely chardonnays. Adrian Rodda’s wine is a prime example." - James Halliday

Halliday Wine Companion

"Here the intensity of the wine on the palate is expressed through the mouthwatering grapefruit flavours. This, Smiths Vineyard and Baxendale Vineyard all have unmistakable signatures - chardonnay isn't being used to do tricks, this is terroir (in the full sense of that term) speaking loud and clear." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

Additional Info

From The Producer

A section of Willow Lake Vineyard’s Parkinsons Road Block was planted in 1979 in brown, gradational soils over clay at an elevation of 270 metres above sea level. Unlike the majority of the Willow Lake Vineyard, the Parkinsons Road block has a southerly aspect, with a consistent gradient across the entire block.

Fruit for both wines were pressed to oak without clarification or racking for non-temperature controlled, natural fermentation. The cooperages, oak format (puncheons) and barrel age were exactly the same for both wines. Upon completion of fermentation, the wines were immediately sulphured to preserve freshness and acidity and rested on it lees for 10 months.
