About The Wine

Yet again the Woods Crampton Barossa Valley Shiraz shapes as one of the year's true wine bargains. Shiraz lovers eat your hearts out.

The style of this wine is best summed up by the Woods Crampton boys themselves: "A modern, fruit driven Barossa Shiraz with a focus on drinkability. A world away from the over-extracted and over the top styles loved by the Americans. Cool Climate Barossa Shiraz?"

With 93 points from Gary Walsh and his "Strong recommendation", this is quite simply one of the best value Shiraz in The Barossa Valley.

About Woods Crampton

Woods Crampton is an energetic brand quickly making a big name for themselves out of the Barossa Valley. Essentially a two man operation, their range is a mix of traditional Barossa and some obscure Mediterranean varieties. The value is always extremely high in these wines. A modern approach to a historic region.

Critic Reviews

93Points
The Wine Front

"It’s a little cloudy, but has great colour. Spice, boysenberry, almost a gin botanicals perfume too, brown bread and chocolate wrappers. Medium bodied, fresh and perky, bright crushed berry flavour and spice, beautiful lightly furry tannin, settled acidity, and an aromatic and commanding finish of fine length. This has drinkability, value and complexity all sewn up. Strong recommendation." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93Points
Halliday Wine Companion

"Cold soaked at 8 degrees C for 5 days in small 2-tonne open fermenters, hand-plunged, matured for 9 months in oak of various sizes (30% new). Has very good attack to its lively mouthfeel, with black fruits, licorice and pepper darting in every direction. It's very catchy and juicy and savoury and?" - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

Additional Info

From The Producer

Winemaking:

Sourced from a number of low yielding old-vine vineyards on the cooler eastern valley slopes, towards Eden Valley. Chilled overnight before primarily de-stemming and cold soak for five days at eight degrees. Fermentation was a cool twenty five degrees in small open two tonne fermenters with fifteen percent whole bunch and twice daily hand plunging. Matured in small and large format oak barrels, primarily French with some American. The thirty percent new oak component is all French oak. Bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

2016 Vintage:

An outstanding vintage, possibly the best in the Barossa Valley in a decade – despite a number of hot contenders. Excellent, balanced and consistent conditions – warm but not too warm, dry but not too dry, crucially cool Autumn nights – have led to intensely flavoured and brilliantly balanced fruit with excellent freshness.

Blend : Shiraz (100%)
ABV : 14.5%
Closure : Screw Cap
Bottle Size : 750ml
