It’s the best of the Brunnen pinot noirs so far...

About The Wine

The Brünnen vineyard is set amongst spectacular Australian bushland high on the hill behind Beechworth. Its high altitude and rugged soils make a perfect setting for high-class Burgundian varieties. The Chardonnay from this vineyard makes the Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown, as does the excellent Pinot Noir.

This is a thought-provoking style of Pinot. Built in a savoury framework of herbal, undergrowthy mystery, the fruit purity from intelligent viticulture shines through. The 2015 release inspired a brilliant piece of prose from Campbell Mattinson who noted that the world of Tessa and Jeremy's Pinot Noir, "It’s a world worth stepping into."

Well the 2016 is right there again - a gorgeously pure and detailed Pinot.

This is one of the finest examples of Pinot Noir to be found from the region and highly worth investigating if you like savoury yet delicate versions of this variety.

About Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown

Tessa and Jeremy are playing a long-game with their Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown label.

They have invested in a block of land high in the hills behind Beechworth and have planted 10,000 vines on it over the last couple of years with the plan to farm it organically. Tessa has a wealth of experience from time at Sorrenberg and Kooyong, Jeremy is an architect by trade with an eye for detail.

It comes as no surprise that the buzz around this husband and wife team is palpable and the praise is high. Max Allen called them, “one of a remarkable number of impressive new wine labels to have cropped up in Beechworth over the last five years.”

They are going to be at the forefront of Beechworth wine for many years to come.

Forest berries, earth and twigs. A hint of mushroom and Autumn scents amongst the plush and fruit that rides front and centre. There's sappy tannin and and easy feel. Varietal, full of flavour and just great to drink. - Different Drop Wine Team

"This is the first year where I feel, as a taster, that I’m really starting to feel where this wine comes from. By that I mean that I’m starting to understand it; its personality has become clearer. And it does have a personality; it’s a unique wine, quite unlike any other I can think of. It has ample tang but it’s not a sour tang; there’s a sweetness to its tang side, which works particularly well given the wine is savoury at heart. It’s built on acidity, as past releases have been, but there’s more flavour to this release, and a deceptive run of tannin too. This is real bone China territory, though the wine also feels durable, secure and silken. Its every tremble feels inescapably precise. It’s the best of the Brunnen pinot noirs so far; it is charm central." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). PLEASE NOTE that we are currently seeing significant delays in the Australia Post delivery network. Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine.
