Description

The Stevens vineyard fruit has been made by the Tyrrell family since the 1993 vintage.

Tyrrell patriarch, Bruce Tyrrell, says it's the vineyard that first inspired the Single Vineyard bottling program at Tyrrell's due to the unique quality of fruit this vineyard delivers year-in-year-out. The red soils of this site yield minerally, chalky, powerful Semillon which cellars beautifully.

Made the same way as the iconic Vat 1 Semillon, this wine offers exceptional value for money and is now one of the most recognisable Semillons in the Hunter Valley.

The Stevens family’s ‘Glen Oak’ vineyard is the southern-most of our Semillon vineyards and features a combination of light sand and red clay soils. The vineyard is dry grown with the earliest plantings being 1911.

Harvested in the early hours of the morning, the fruit was lightly crushed and pressed before a relatively cool fermentation. The wine then spent minimal time on yeast lees before being bottled early to maintain its freshness. No oak fermentation or maturation.

92 Points - "The only one of these single-vineyard expressions to be machine harvested. Still dry grown. Still an exemplary site, sand and red clay. The broader of the 3 Tyrell's single-vineyard semillons, with a more verdant nose of nettle and greengage, melding with lemon zest, camphor and bath salts. The flavours ease their way across the palate, the stream of filigreed acidity drawing a long arc. My assistant Emi and I both liked this for its immediacy. Delicious from the first sip, albeit, lacking the drive and depth of its siblings. The best of the 3 to breach early." - Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 Points - "Crisp and zesty style, kind of skittish and certainly energetic. Falls more towards the lime flavour spectrum more than lemon, and has some slight grassy notes, but they add interest rather than detract. Finish is neat and tangy. Tasted over two days, and it looks better today than it did yesterday, which is always encouraging." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Tyrrell's

Established in 1858, Tyrrell's, an esteemed family-owned winery, holds a prominent place in Australia's viticultural history. Renowned for exemplary Shiraz, Semillon, and Chardonnay releases, the Tyrrell family safeguards the Hunter Valley's finest and oldest vineyards, upholding a legacy of quality winemaking. Chris Tyrrell, continuing the family tradition, ensures Tyrrell's remains a crucial pillar in the realm of Australian wine.

Embedded in the Hunter Valley's fabric, Tyrrell's, guided by founder Edward Tyrrell, pioneered Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, influencing the iconic Semillon style. Notably, their Vat 1 Semillon, Australia's most-awarded white wine, holds almost 5,500 medals and 330 trophies.

While honoring their heritage, the Tyrrells embrace innovation, staying at the forefront of the dynamic Hunter Valley. Fifth-generation winemaker Chris Tyrrell finds humility in working with his forefathers' vineyards. The family's commitment extends to future generations, evidenced by their participation in Australia's First Families of Wine. Guided by Edward Tyrrell's motto, "Nothing is great unless it is good," the Tyrrell legacy persists, passing the business to successive generations, balancing reverence for the past with a forward-looking perspective.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
