About The Wine
Kai Schubert's masterpiece is his Block B Pinot, a small production of Dijon clone Pinot Noir, aged in mostly new French oak for 18 months, and designed to age.
Six odd years from vintage and this is looking damn fine. It's still powerful and tense, with a velvety dark fruit core and some lingering, quality tannins.
Complexity is the key - there's earthiness and minerality, depth and subtlety. A truly excellent new world Pinot that would confound and delight the old world drinker.
About Schubert
In Martinborough, over the road from Ata Rangi and a block away from Dry River, you'll find the Schubert vineyard.
It was founded in 1998 by German partners Kai Schubert and Marion Deimling - after searching around the world to find their perfect Pinot spot, they decided upon the Wairarapa!
Their vineyards all certified organic (from 2013), and they produce effortlessly beautiful wines in very small volumes.
