About The Wine

This is the top Pinot Noir in the Murdoch Hill range.

A single vineyard offering from Uraidla in SA, this was fermented as 50% whole bunches - young gun winemaker Michael Downer drawing more smoky/spicy complexity from the fruit with the higher whole-bunch inclusion on this wine.

With 95 points from James Halliday and 93 points from Mike Bennie, this is a wonderfully youthful example of the very high quality coming out of the Murdoch Hill cellar at the moment.

As with all the Murdoch Hill Pinots, the colour is super-bright and clear, getting them off to a flying start. "Winemaker Michael Downer is doing the Downer family proud, and accelerating his name through the ranks. Winner of Young Guns Of Wine 2016 too, if that’s a yardstick (and it is a pretty rigorously, and thoughtfully, judged competition). Anyways, this pinot comes from Piccadilly Valley, and is produced with that punchy phrase – minimal intervention. A very fine boned wine that feels very pretty and a pitch perfect, cool climate expression of pinot noir. Scents of rose petal, red cherry, kirsch. The palate a calm, gentle pool of cranberry-pomegranate juice, just kissed by savouriness in a lick of game meat and whatever forest floor means to you. Finishes softly with a lick of sour cherry, spice and walnut-like savouriness. Fine wine this." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
