2016 Mount Mary Quintet
The iconic Mount Mary Quintet is one of the jewels of the Yarra Valley.
A blend of the five Bordeaux varieties, planted side-by-side on one of the Yarra's most revered sites. This personifies the medium-bodied, regal style of Cabernet blends from this region.
The 2016 vintage was warmer than average, the fruit getting to perfect ripeness and beautifully guided to bottle by young family winemaker Sam Middleton. All the ducks in a row.
A thing of beauty. A thing of class. A wine for the cellar to be marvelled at for decades to come.
97 points - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
97 points - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

The fastest wine to sell out each year from Mount Mary is the Pinot Noir. It's a wine that excels regardless of the vagaries of the vintage.
As Sam Middleton explains, "We often find our Pinots made in the warmer vintages surprise us the most when tasted in vertical lineups. We believe this speaks to the uniqueness of our site, in particular the cold nights we experience during the growing season here at Mount Mary."
It's a wine that blossoms with time in the cellar. Each vintage shows structure, power and grace.
The 2016 received 97 points from James Halliday and 96 points from Gary Walsh. As always, the allocations are limited.

The famed old vines on the Mount Mary estate yield some of the finest Chardonnay in the district.
Sensitive winemaking from Sam Middleton and respect for the fruit is at the core of this wine. Sam looks to support the Chardonnay with high quality ok (around 30% new), a relatively hard pressing to extract more in the way of texture and some lees stirring. Malo is avoided to retain acid purity.
Here, Sam Middleton pulls together an exceptional Yarra Chardonnay. There are few who managed to craft such a wine from the 2016 vintage. Sam nailed it.
In the words of James Halliday, this is "a sophisticated wine destined for a long life."

The Mount Mary Triolet is a wine inspired by the great white blends of Bordeaux.
The vineyard is planted to 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon and 5% Muscadelle. Each variety is picked at perfect ripeness, then vinified in essentially the same way as their Chardonnay with 100% barrel ferment (in mostly older oak), some solids from firm pressing and lees stirring employed over the 11 months it rests in barrel before bottling.
The 2016 Triolet is a richer example of this cult favourite wine, showing more pronounced fruit weight at this stage than is typical for Triolet. The ideal season in the Yarra allowing plenty of flavour development and pristine acidity through the wine.
With 97 points from James Halliday, this is a top example of why this is considered one of the country's finest examples of the Bordeaux Blanc style.
